As parents the word relax becomes a distant memory. Something we used to take for granted and now dream of. Being able to take time for ourselves is important to keep up with the busy demands of parenting. This year I vow to give myself a break when needed. Knowing that it will not only fill myself with gratitude, but it will allow me to be the best parent possible for my children.

These relaxation tips for moms or parents are easy to implement and can create a much more peaceful day and environment for the entire family.

Wake up early to have quiet time alone. Reading, journaling, exercising or mediation are all great ways to spend an hour each morning to recharge yourself and renew you energy. When you can start off the day with some time alone savoring your favorite cup of coffee and a new book, the steady stream of, “Mom?” questions throughout the day won't be so tough to deal with.

Use aromatherapy. Essential oils are highly popular for many reasons, but one of the biggest things they are used for is aromatherapy. Being able to fill your home with soothing and relaxing smells can help you to relax and calm successfully without a large expense or need to pay a babysitter. As a routine, diffuse or inhale essential oils like Lemon, Lavender, Chamomile and any other scent you find particularly soothing.

Have a mandatory quiet time for kids each day. Once your kids have outgrown naps, you have to continue working with them to understand the need for things like simply taking a break to lay quietly, read, do puzzles or play with quiet toys alone in their rooms. This gives you both a mental and physical break each day to recharge.

Exercise regularly. This is often he number one relaxation tip for stay at home moms. Don't get caught in the cycle of putting others ahead of yourself and your health. Make time to exercise several times a week to keep your health in check as well as to give yourself a boost of energy that is much needed. Workout videos at home, a jogging stroller to go out with the kids or a local gym membership you sneak off to late at night or early mornings are all great options.

Prayer or mediation. If you are religious prayer can help you significantly. Spending time focusing on your thoughts, needs and desires in the form of prayers or quiet reflection and medication can help you to focus once again on your job as a stay at home mom. Prayer and mediation are some of the best ways to give yourself self therapy that you can find.

Use the counting method. When things get super stressful, you may need to find an alternative method to calm down and not lash out at your children or spouse. The old school method of counting to 10 actually does help. Whether you count to a certain number, or you take a moment to pause and mentally recite a poem or verse of scripture to calm yourself and shift gears doesn't matter. It is simply the rote method of relaxing and shifting focus that is needed in those situations.
