Remember the kid’s table?
And those days mom made our plates, and we played tag and hide-and-seek until dark.
Those were the younger years when we took second helpings, without thinking twice, and gatherings meant more fun, instead of more stress.
Birthdays, holidays; when we invited everybody over for Sunday supper.
The adults sat and ate and passed the rolls around our regular seats, while we relocated to that squeaky folding table close-by.
And we overheard the laughter and loud stories from the big table, while we nibbled and joked and shared some tall tales of our own.
And it felt like it would take forever for time to grow us, so we could move up there and leave all that’s little behind.
We just wanted to be seen and be heard and feel bigger, more important.
Well, as it turns out, forever flies by, because we claimed our grown-up seats years ago.
And now we have kids of our own, who are taking over those little tables, with hearts eager to be included. So, let’s make sure they know they matter, too.
When we get together, let’s be sure to ask about school and friends and how life is going, and let’s put ourselves back in their untied, scuffed up shoes. Let’s remind them even though the journey may get bumpy, it is leading us to far better.
Let’s testify of God’s faithfulness, and how He is so gracious to us.
And let us never forget to count our many blessings gathered around the kid’s table.
