Sometimes I wonder if I'm doing any of it right.
When all I want is to do all of it right.
And then I pray that,
at least,
I'm doing some of it right.
Parenting.
Mothering.
Raising a little person to be a big person.
A person better than I.
Because the I that I am needs work.
The I that I am is still evolving.
Is ever-evolving
And,
hopefully,
prayerfully,
improving.
But what a thing that is --
trying to raise a
good,
kind,
world-bettering human
(or two or three)
while you're still working towards being that yourself.
To be a parent to a child when the child in you still leans on your parent.
To be a guide for another when you often and very quickly lose your way.
To be "in charge" when,
really,
it would be quite helpful if someone were in charge of you.
It's quite the pickle to get it all right.
But that, my friend, is not the charge of a parent.
The only duty of a parent is to show up,
unqualified,
sure,
and earn the f*%k to be “qualified.”
I’m just saying…
potty mouth and all…
that if you
LOVE your kid,
TREAT THEM WITH RESPECT,
LOOK OUT FOR THEM
AND PROVIDE FOR THEM to the best of your ability,
while ALWAYS working to expand upon that,
you’re getting some of it right.
And that some of it you’re getting right,
it’s very likely more than enough.
