I have been a SAHM for 3 months. It is by far the most demanding and rewarding job I have ever had. Some days are such a whirlwind, and the time flies.Other days seem to drag on forever.I find myself watching the clock (I do not recommend this) checking to see how many minutes or hours until I have adult human contact.

My mom brain is in constant over drive.I am always thinking is he hungry, tired, do we have time to go to the store before nap, what should we eat for dinner, etc.In the craziness of mom life, I forget about myself. In my few short months as a SAHM, I have learned that it is very important to do things for myself, if I want to have an ounce of sanity. It is okay to be selfish. This goes for all moms: do things that bring you joy and relax you.

It doesn’t have to be anything extravagant.Sometimes, I treat myself to a latte, relax during naptime, and have a date with my DVR.I enjoy the YMCA, I drop my son off to play, and clear my head with a workout. I love those few precious moments when I feel like my pre-mom self again. Before my “me” time is up, I find myself missing his sweet face. I feel refreshed, and I truly believe that being a little selfish makes me a better mom.Being a mom is the most important job, but also not losing yourself during the process is just as important.
