When our oldest 2 boys were very little, we took them to the beach for the first time. I have the sweetest picture of the two dressed alike in matching sun hats, shirts, and shorts that I had sewn from the sweetest material. That picture started a tradition that I will forever cherish. You should do it too.
I can look back over every year that we visited the beach and find a picture similar to the one above. It started off as two and grew to three. It stayed just the 3 for a long time. I got to see how they changed, how the youngest was so much smaller than the oldest. I loved how they always cooperated for this one moment every time.
3 years ago, we added two more to the picture. Our fourth boy was so tiny (and still is) next to his brothers; and the baby sister of them all was just the sweetest thing was just learning to sit up and stay up.
This past Spring break we did the hardest part of loading them up and driving the 7 hours to the beach and in my heart, it was all just so I could get this shot.
We have missed a year or two in all the years of taking them to the beach. That's okay, this Momma is making a memory for herself if no one else. One day, I hope that we can add our grandkids to the picture too.
You don't have to take this type of picture, but when you travel with your children. Find a spot and take the pictures. Take it every single time if you take nothing else. I've traveled from Georgia to Upstate New York with my kids and I could give you advice untold on how to travel, but this is what is most important. I'm just sharing with you the one thing you will be glad you made the effort to do many years down the road.
