Parents, you’ve got questions, we’ve got answers.

Or just as likely, we’ve got questions and you’ve got answers.

A few weeks ago, I received this message in my email, from my sons' 5th grade teacher in Centennial Colorado. We always knew Mr. Long was an amazing teacher but this shows just how very special he is. He is forever in our hearts and thanking him for the positive effect he had on our kids is not even anywhere close to the accolades he deserves:

To the students and parents of Mr. Long's fifth grade class, 2012-2013: Hello from Willow Creek Elementary School! I am still teaching fifth grade in the same room you left 7 years ago (except these days it's from my living room. My greatest hope right now is that you are all safe and healthy. I have been thinking about all of you who were my students so long ago (and yet not so long), especially during this challenging time. My heart breaks for all of you for having to end your senior year in high school away from your friends and teachers. So many memories are made during your senior year and I'm so sorry that you have to close it out like this. I hope wherever you are, you have the opportunity to honor your work through all of these years in school and to celebrate a new future with some kind of graduation. To help honor at least one year of school, I dug up the end-of-year video I made for you in fifth grade and decided to share it with you again. The link is below. I have such fond memories of that year: our trip to Camp Cheley, the Science Fair, and Young Ameritowne. All of them are captured here and it definitely reminded me of how much this particular class meant to me. My hope is that it brings a smile to your face and you can look back on fifth grade as a milestone - the end of your elementary years. If nothing else, look at how much you have changed - I can only imagine! I'm sure you have spent some time working out your plans for what comes next. I hope it brings you great fulfillment and excitement. I know one of the things I always talked to you about was that challenge is good; if it doesn't challenge you, it doesn't change you. Look for the good in all this, take note of anything you may have taken for granted before, and allow those things to change you for the better. I wish you a lifetime of peace. Go do great things!
