"Thank you for respecting our privacy while my husband and I continue to be antisocial," she says hesitantly and only half-joking.
"It's not that we don't like people, don't need or want friends, or are riding some high-horse, it's just that between work and family, we're worn out and would rather use every bit of the minimal energy and time we have left with those that make up our nucleus."
I get it.
I get her.
I get her because I am her, and I won't apologize for it.
You get one life, yes.
And it's important that you forge and maintain relationships and friendships outside of the ones with your husband and children because God knows one day you're going to need to complain about those draining daises and you'll need someone to word vomit on to.
BUT, it's also okay to be in the stage of your life where work and family are your priorities.
Every human on this planet is evolving; my husband and I included.
And, likely, one day, we will both be itching to attend backyard BBQs, multi-family playdates, and neighborhood potlucks.
But, today is not that day.
And so, we'll keep on keeping to ourselves and if I see you doing the same, don't worry, I won't invite you over to join us.
"Thank you for respecting privacy while my husband and I continue to be antisocial," she says hesitantly and only half-joking.
You're welcome.
