Being a mom is hard. Being a stepmom is hard. When we are all in this together and we make it about the kids and not us, everyone wins.

I witnessed a beautiful climax to a lifetime of selfless co-parenting when my Mother and Stepmother sat alongside one another helping my Dad in the hospital while he was on his deathbed. It was a beautiful reflection of the way my Mom modeled parenting my entire life. We didn’t know a lot about their issues, we just knew we were loved. In the end, this was everything to everyone.

Now I am a stepparent, and I am able to choose the same.

And then when my stepkids’ mom became a stepparent, she chose to do the same. And a cycle of love continues. And that how it’s done.
