The summer slide is real.
And I’m not talking about the one kids enjoy when they ignore their summer reading books and trade time with ‘em in for
hours
and hours
of fun.
I’m talking about the summer slide you,
the parent,
are on
with this
lack of
a schedule,
structure,
productivity-encouraging rules,
exercise
and healthy eating.
I could only run a mile today,
when my typically is two or three,
and it’s ‘cause my body felt so heavy,
no doubt thanks to some
late nights,
brewery visits,
red wine,
AND
ALL
THE
YUMMY
FOOD
I can get.
And I’m feeling a bit down about it.
BUT…
here’s what I’m reminding myself.
I may be in the summer slide, but that’s okay.
It’s okay to
play around,
have fun,
and live a little loose for a bit.
Neither summer nor vacation time lasts forever.
But what will forever be a fact is that for every slide down,
there’s a ladder you can climb to get back up.
And isn’t that what makes like fun?
The up,
the down,
and the twisting around?
Life be like playground,
and if you’re lucky enough to have an awesome family
and some extra time to spend with them,
enjoy the hell out of it.
