Three Resolutions of a New Mom

In just 4 short months of motherhood, so many of my priorities have changed to put my little family and baby girl first. Even so, there are things I wish I would have done differently looking back over the past 4 months. This year my resolutions are focused on my family and baby girl.

  1. Take more pictures WITH Livia and Alex. Of course I have a million pictures OF her, but other than an occasional selfie, we aren’t in many with her. My biggest regret so far in motherhood is not getting any pictures with her in the hospital. NONE! I have one of her with everyone else, and a few close up of her in my arms, but not a single one of her and I together. I feel like I missed a huge opportunity to capture precious moments with the two of us that we’ll never have again. I don’t want to feel like that about any other time in her life, so we will selfie and pose away in 2016!
  2. Put down my phone (except when we are taking more pictures together, of course). Today I put her down for some tummy time, looked at my phone, and when I looked back at her she had rolled over and was on her back. Luckily this wasn’t the very first time she has done this, but it just made me realize that I don’t want to trade any moments with her for mindless screen time.
  3. Balance work and home life. Since returning to work I have had a hard time being positive and motivated while I’m there. All I can think of is my baby at home, and how long until I get to see her. The 3 Week Slump definitely has hung around, and just going through the motions, like I have been, has made it worse. My goal in 2016 is to find some way to stay positive and focused while at work so I can go back to enjoying teaching and my students.

What are your New Year’s Resolutions? Any other advice for things to resolve to do as a new mom?
