To The New Mama In The Car Rider Line,
I know you’re paying more attention to the calendar each day, and this new school thing is getting all too real.
I know you’re starting to think about bedtimes and alarm clocks and whether he can find his way around inside once he unbuckles and hops out.
I know, because I was you.
And I can tell you - this too shall pass.
And all too quickly, I might add.
But you already know that. You know that same uncertain feeling you got in the pit of your stomach before that first day of preschool.
You remember that first toddler bed and when those wobbly steps turned into a full-on sprint.
And now, here we are. All sharing the same road as they take off running.
I’m in the minivan next to you, and I’m still trying to figure out my way.
My way of lessening my grip.
My way of holding onto faith, praying we will be reunited with bigger hearts and wiser minds at the end of each day.
And I can tell you from experience, that’s the direction you’re headed.
A transformation is in the making, as God stretches your trust and proves He is with us and with them always.
So, if you’re feeling overwhelmed. Or lost, or teary-eyed, look for me.
I’ll nod, because I know. I’ll smile, and I’ll wave you over.
And I’ll understand if you need to take your time today, new friend.
Take your time.
