As we walked to the rocking chair, I left my phone in another room, like I wish I had done more often, because when we wake you will be one.
I felt the way your little fingers wrap around mine and your soft hand caresses as you drink your milk. I soaked it all in because when we wake you will be one.
I caught that look in your eyes- the tender look checking for safety before batting off to sleep and I took a picture with my mind because when we wake you will be one.
I held your body as tightly as I could against mine- loving the way it curves around my hips and chest and I knew that sooner than I would like, you will be too big for this kind of snuggle because when we wake you will be one.
I ran my fingers through your hair- silky, messy and uneven.
I ran them across your forehead and onto your nose.
I cupped your cheeks with them.
I want to remember everything about these days. I want to take them in like warm tea- filling my body and soul with comfort. I want to fill my mind with the details and carry them with me like a beloved letter for the rest of my life.
I slowed down today, in the midst of it all, because when we wake you will be one.
