There are so many baby related items available at your fingertips, it can be overwhelming once you start to make your baby registry. With so much available, how do you really know what you really need?
Fear not!
As a mom who’s been there and done that (and has certainly learned from her mistakes), I’m here to outline the top ten must have items on your list.
Read on to find out (and to de-stress!).
Crib
Your baby may sleep in a transitional pack and play (in the top part) right next to you for the first few weeks of life, but you'll need a crib. But, they will need something sturdy and safe to transition to. Consider registering for a crib that has an adjustable height preference and can turn into a toddler bed, so it can grow with your baby.
High Chair
A high chair is a must! Not only will it serve as a place for your baby to dine, but it can also double as an activity center; allowing your baby to complete art activities, listen to stories, and play with developmental toys while you need to get some cooking done in the kitchen.
Car Seat
Safety first! And, you need a car seat to protect your precious cargo, when you’re on the go! Start with an infant seat. You’ll be able to snap its carrier in and out of its base and even into a stroller if you purchase a compatible travel system.
Stroller
You’ll be so excited to show off your little one, so you’ll need a stroller to help you tote them around town. Be sure to register for a stroller that is compatible with your infant car seat carrier, so you can snap it in, and go anywhere with ease. A stroller travel system is another great option.
Onesies
It’s hard, but hold off on lots of clothing until after your baby is born. You won’t really know what size will initially accommodate your baby. But, one clothing item I highly suggest is onesies. Stock up on all colors and sizes. They serve as the perfect layering item.
Changing Mat
I personally skipped the changing table, and opted to register for a portable changing mat. It’s plush, comfortable, and easy to move from one room to another in order to change your baby.
Diaper Bag
You’ll need an awesome diaper bag with lots of compartments and space to carry all your baby’s necessary items. Register for something that is waterproof, easy to carry, and that has a portable changing mat built in.
Feeding Accessories
Whether you choose to nurse or bottle feed, you’ll need feeding accessories. For those nursing, put a high quality breast pump on your list. If formula feeding, you’ll need to invest in a set of bottles. You may also want to add a bottle warmer for late night feedings, or even a travel bottle set; that comes complete with caps when you need to fill your bottle and go.
Crib Mattress
Your baby needs something safe and secure to sleep on. Be sure to put a crib mattress on your list. When possible, go the organic route and make sure that your mattress is compatible with your crib; fitting inside it snugly.
Transitional Pack and Play
Transitional pack and plays are great. They can serve as a bedside bassinet when your baby is a newborn. You can use it as a diaper changing station. You can even use it as a play pen once your baby gets bigger. Out of all of the items I registered for, I’d say that the pack and play got the most use!
