Traveling with kids can be nice, exhausting, just not good, sometimes even something you dread about!
We(my husband and I) have been a couple who LOVES traveling, exploring new places, national parks etc. We didn't want to change that after having a kid, but wanted to enable her and us to travel the world together!
Planning, Planning and Planning - This is one thing I have learnt, never travel without thinking about things before hand. Its saves you and keeps your sanity!
Toddler S seems to be an AWESOME traveler. But we do have to ensure we manage her nap times, food etc. Always keep various, multiple activities handy. Sometimes even new ones, as they take sometime exploring those :)
We play a ton of games on the road. Some of them like :
- Spot a red colored car. etc.
- Watch the signals lights
Car seats are a big pain but sometimes, just adding a activity table helps cheer up!
Long Flights :
Timings : Planning the flying times can be game changers.
Infant/Early toddler ages : We always planned our trip during nap time, sleep times. This helped us a TON!
Toddler S would be awake for a little bit and then sleep through most of the flight!!
Layovers :
Make the most of these layovers. Stretch your legs, let the kids play around.
TIP : Find a kids playing area. You will thank yourself later. Kids love playing in these and is a good source of burning their energy!
Helpful things on long flights :
- Extra change of cloths
- Travel pillows (We have used the ones from 1stclasskids, but there are other brands as well. These don't come with pumps. The pillows are great and very helpful)
- Activity sets (games, etc)
- Kids headset
Long Drives :
Timings : We also plan these during nap or sleep times. OR Plan to take a long break where the toddler gets a chance to run around or play.
Stops : Plan ahead and look up areas that you can take break and have a park, or play areas etc.
