Easter weekend my water broke at 21 weeks 4 days. We rushed to the hospital where we were told there was very little chance our son would make it. Since we weren't to viability yet (24 weeks gestation) we were sent home and told our hope was to not go into labor or for me to get internal infection. Two weeks later an ultrasound confirmed my water had resealed only to rupture again a week after. My husband brought me to the hospital May 4th where I would then spent the next two months on bed rest trying to prevent our little boy from being born. We held off on labor starting for a full 79 days from the date my water originally broke (normally labor naturally begins within 7-10 days). Our miracle man was born July 1st at 32 weeks 4 days gestation and quickly rushed to the NICU weighing in at 4lbs 8oz. With no amniotic fluid for so long his lunges were very under developed. I remember well the day I finally got to hold my baby when he reached 7 days old! He sent the next 2 months 3 days in NICU with many ups and downs along the way. He was 90 minutes away from where we live so there were many miles traveled each week to cuddle our little miracle. We finally brought him home on Labor Day; he spent the next 6 weeks on oxygen and we've since continued to grow and overcome all obstacles. Through our long journey we couldn't think of a better name to call him - our little Chance has shown us he is here to accomplish some great things in life, with one of his biggest fights already behind him!
