I have to say picking my daughter's name was one of the hardest decisions we've ever had to make as parents. Not because we couldn't come up with names, but because we could never agree! So we used family and friends as sounding boards for name ideas.
No matter what, my mom kept calling her "bright eyes" and said, "that's what her name is going to be." Throughout my whole pregnancy, to my mom she was "Bright eyes Caruso" and though I knew it wasn't going to be her name, I just let her continue to call her that.
I feel like the joke was on us because she was born with the biggest, most beautiful eyes ever. One of the first things, if not last, someone would stop us just to compliment on how big or bright her eyes were.
I can go on and on, but I think this is fitting of her future. How her little spirit can bring joy to strangers, I know it will bring joy to the world. I know she will be the light in the world.
So as we are filling out paperwork at the hospital and it comes to the birth certificate, we still didn't have a name. Somehow, my husband and I agreed with Norah, which means "the light."
Norah is now three and she is truly a joy. I think names are important because our children become what they are called.
