You can find a school supply list at most schools, through the Target app, at many retail stores, and through most of the school websites.
This weekend is tax-free in my city and I plan to buy the necessary school supplies. But having the right school supplies will only be half of what my children need.
We cannot forget the intangible things. We must remember the things that cannot be bought in a store, but our kids desperately need:
An open mind
A listening ear
An honest, but respectful mouth
Well rested eyes
Empathy
A positive attitude
Enthusiasm
Creativity
Independence
Good study skills
Integrity
Self- Confidence
A sense of humor
A good pencil grip
Shoes with good soles
Resilience
Resourcefulness
A loving heart
So I will buy the supplies needed for my 6th grader, 2nd grader, and my preschooler. But I won’t forget to help them with all the other things that make a strong student, and even more importantly an amazing human being.
