When your husband tells you to calm down, maybe you should listen.
Eek.
Just saying that was painful.
And I’m sure I just majorly violated girl code.
Fudge.
Well, I’m sticking to the contention that
WHEN YOUR HUSBAND TELLS YOU TO
SIMMER DOWN,
CHILL OUT,
OR STOP FREAKIN’ OUT,
perhaps he’s on to something.
Like the fact that what really matters
isn’t
that the laundry is piling up,
the sink is full of dirty dishes,
that the house, you or the kids are mess,
that someone spilled milk for the umpteenth time,
that you burnt dinner,
that your kid missed their zoom,
that they refused to do their work,
or that in your own
overly-critical and incorrect opinion,
you failed miserably today.
At mothering.
At humaning.
At everything.
Under the weight of everything.
But that was does matter,
more than anything,
is you taking enough care of yourself to be able to see beyond all the day’s
disasters,
mishaps
and less than pleasantries,
to know that in the big scheme of things,
those little nothings,
are just that,
and they speak no volume as to your
capability,
worth
and awesomeness.
It’s so fudgin’ easy to go off the deep-end when you’re already drowning and typically it’s a fast and knee-jerk go-to.
But thank freakin’ God for brave as hell husbands who care and love their women enough to tell them the truth
— the very thing that, oddly enough, is so hard for us mamas to believe, and that they’ll likely get in trouble for —
that we must calm down,
‘cause it’s all gonna be okay.
As he says, so it is.
