Failure doesn't feel like a set up for success. Instead, it feels like a natural set up for these more likely candidates:

* Pulling out our hair

* Having a glass of wine

* Hiding under the bed covers

Luckily, before I took to those means, I sat down with New York Times best-selling author Jessica Lahey, who wrote a wildly successful book with a quite intriguing title, "The Gift of Failure: How the Best Parents Learn to Let Go So Their Children Can Succeed."

Let's face it, in this era of helicopter parenting, letting go sounds really appealing. Jessica has practical insights for how to step back and let our kids step up in terms of sports, grades, AND housework. Need I say more?
