There are few things in life as magical as freshly fallen snow. Winter may entice you to rug up and bunker down, but there's no reason why you can't rug up with appropriate snow gear and head out for a day of fun in the snow with the kids. Snow doesn't need to be an excuse to cut movement altogether and hibernate. Humans need to keep moving, rain, hail or snow. Here are some fun snow activities and sports to keep your kids active when the snow falls.
- Tobogganing
Nothing is quite as taxing on the body then running up a snow-laden hill. If your kids are high on energy and sending you crazy, rug them up and send them outside with a sleigh or toboggan. The reward is sweet when you see their smiles and hear their laughter as they slide down the hill on their toboggan. - Ice Skating
You really can walk on water with ice skating. It's a magical experience gliding across an ice rink and your children will be kept entertained for hours. Make sure they have plenty of layers and mittens to keep them protected from the falling over. - Skiing & Snowboarding
This goes without saying, but skiing and snowboarding must be the most popular winter sports. A full day on the slopes will certainly run your children's energy dry. - Snow Ball Fights
Set up an arena in the backyard. Pick your team. And game on! Your children will love running around and launching snowballs at each other. Just make sure they aren't too big and too solid that one could be sent flying through a window! - Indoor Sports
Don't forget that there are many indoor sports that are played all year round. Examples include rock-climbing, indoor football, gymnastics and basketball. These can be played all year round, even if there's a snow storm happening outside.
At the end of the day, the most important thing about being active is making sure you have fun! This will rub off onto your kids and help to keep them active as part of their natural lifestyle.
