We all know that babies do not come with a "how to" manual. Sure, we try to do everything we can to prepare for babies big arrival- like reading the famous "What to Expect When Expecting" and anything else we can get our hands on. But, sometimes it's just nice to hear advice from real parents out there who are going through the same glorious thing- raising kids.

Few words about author: Linda Merrill holds a degree in California and Creative Writing Program. She’s the editor behind Today.com and hopes to change your worldview with his word..

Enjoy!

I've compiled a list of advice from my friends. These are real people raising kids today, that have real advice for new parents. This isn't advice from fancy doctors or meant to tell you exactly how to raise your kids. I think it's even better. It is just an honest list meant to help new parents navigate the wonderful world of parenting. Enjoy...

"Get lots of sleep before the baby comes. Take lots of pictures- they grow so fast! Breastfeeding takes patience, but it is so worth it. Don't buy everything new. Cherish all of the fun times- you will forget the hard days."

"Find a babysitter that you love and trust early on- even before the baby comes. Getting out as a couple or with friends is often needed to recharge your own batteries."

"Do not judge other parents (and their parenting styles) and their kids. You have no idea what goes on in their life. Also, make sure you keep your other identities in life- as wife, friend, employee, etc."

"Be available as much as possible. Cherish every moment, time flies. Go with your gut and do what works for your family. When everyone gives you advice or tells you what book or method to use, smile and say thanks, then do what feels natural. Love your child no matter what. Don't' forget your spouse, you have to put forth more effort now than ever before/"

"Trust you instincts more than what others will tell you is 'the right thing to do'."

"Being a parent takes lots of patience. Never forget how old they are. It puts things more into perspective and you respond better."

"Enjoy every minute of parenting- the good and the bad. Your little one will quickly be a big one and all grown up."

"Don't sweat the small stuff. Remember your sense of humor! Rest when you can. Ask for help when you need it. Take deep breaths and walk away when you lose your patience. Safety first. Hugs and kisses every day!"

"Saying 'no' isn't easy. Being a parent doesn't always mean that your kids are happy with you. Being your kids biggest fan is the most important part of the job! Choose your battles carefully, making sure it is really worth the fight."

"Let them learn whatever they are thirsty for...rockets, cars, bugs, or dinosaurs. Feed their knowledge while they want the information. It doesn't have to be from a book- knowledge is everywhere!"

"Learn to have fun with your kids, even if it's on their terms sometimes. Those are the memories you want them to have, keep, and hold onto for a lifetime."

"Don't worry so much- they don't ask for the keys to the car the day they come home from the hospital. Do not buy anything that needs to be dry cleaned until they get into middle school. Find a good babysitter that isn't a relative. Always trust your gut. Go with the flow."
