We live in a culture of more and hurry. Day in and day out we are bombarded with phrases like maximize your time. Capitalize your gain. Follow these five easy steps and you too can do these 67 million things all before 6 am. Because let’s be honest, if you aren’t hustling then you aren’t winning, right?
Right.
Sis, there are people out there getting more accomplished before I can even open my eyes. They’re mixing protein shakes, going on a light ten-mile run, checking emails, running their business with one hand while simultaneously writing inspirational notes for their kiddo’s lunches with the other and it all begs the question – why can’t I do that? Why can’t I be that motivated or that driven?
Am I failing? I mean I must be because let’s be honest do you know what my morning looked like?
I got my kiddo out the door to school (late of course). The house looked like a bomb went off and I may or may have left milk sitting on the counter. My toddler’s shirt was too itchy, then too blue. All because he wanted the Paw Patrol shirt which was in the wash of course because I can’t stay on top of laundry to save my life. Insert meltdown HERE. There were shoes to be found and lunches to be packed.
There was no morning workout routine, no inspirational quotes - just full on survival and it's like this daily.
Don’t get me wrong I’m all about pushing yourself and chasing your dreams. I know you have to put in the time and effort if you want to reap the reward. That’s all well and good. What I’m not OK with is when these things start to make you feel like a failure.
I’m tired of keeping up with the Jones's. I’m tired of worrying about what she’s doing or what kind of car he’s driving. Or what type of house they live in.
Their white picket fence? It's overrated sis.
I don’t care whether you hand sowed your kids costume or if you bought them at the nearest Walmart grocery.
If you are an out of the box cake mix kind of mom or a make it from scratch let them lick the beater type.
If you pull into the school pickup in stilettos and makeup or if you rock the messy bun and sweat pants.
If you made hamburger helper and instant mashed potatoes or made an organic kale meal the whole family loved.
Do what makes you happy. Whatever that looks like for you – do it. And to those who got more done this morning in two hours than I will in a day, good for you. Keep crushing it sis. I'm right behind you. But for now - I'm exactly where I need to be.
