It wasn’t all that long ago that most parents of children with special needs felt completely alone, with no one to turn to for help and advice. Thanks to the Internet, there are now thousands of resources for parents of children with special needs, from medical articles to forums to chat rooms and so much more. But, not all websites are going to be of help, and some provide information that can do a lot more harm than good. If you are a parent of a special needs child, here are some of the best online resources that you need to know about.

  1. Pacer.org - The Pacer Center, and its website, is all about enhancing the quality of life and expanding opportunities for children, youths, and young adults with special needs. They provide workshops, information for parents and professionals, and much more.
  2. Autism Society - This is the nation’s leading grassroots autism organization, where you can learn about the issues of those across the autism spectrum, find the services you need for your child, and learn the latest about research, treatment, and more.
  3. Children with Traumatic Brain Injury: A Parents' Guide - This is a great site for parents of children who have suffered from a brain injury. Learn about how to help your child adjust, rehabilitation, etc. following a brain injury.
  4. Special Needs Book Review - There are loads of great books out there for parents of children with special needs, and this site tells you which books are the best, and where to find them. It is touted as being the “#1 resource for special needs literature”.
  5. Scholarships, Grants, and Financial Resources for Students with Disabilities – Here is where you can find everything you need to know about education and careers for those who have special needs. There is information about scholarship programs, online training, employment opportunities, and much more that will help special needs children reach their full potential.
  6. Adapting for Autism - This group specializes in adapted learning materials for students with autism. It may also help to sell Macbook and upgrade to a new one with more features to help your child learn faster.
  7. FamilVoices - This is a non-profit, family-led organization that promotes quality health care for every child and youth, particularly those who have special needs. This organization has worked with family leaders and professional partners at local, state, and regional levels since 1992.
  8. Parent to Parent USA - Here is a place where you can go to find emotional and informational support when you have a child with special needs. There is a Parent to Parent program, a support group that can help when you have children with special health needs, want to discuss your concerns about their issues and health care, etc.
  9. InterventionCentral - Find teachers, schools, districts, etc. that offer free resources to help children who are struggling to learn and keep up in school due, and implement Response to Intervention while helping children achieve the common core standards and succeed in the real world.
  10. U.S. Department of Education - The US Department of Education is a wonderful resource for all parents, including parents of children with special needs. Here you will find information about educational programs, disability discrimination, resources, and more.
  11. Support for Families - This organization has offered support for families since 1982, offering information, education, special events, workshops, parent-to-parent support, and a whole lot more, all at no cost to all parents of children with special needs in the San Francisco area.
  12. Easterseals - This well-known organization provides real opportunities for anyone with disabilities to reach their full potential, and then some. Find information about therapies, early intervention services, summer camps, education, and much more.
