This month I celebrated my son's 6th birthday. It has been a full year since I gave up on forcing him to sit still for a handful of seconds once a week just so I could capture a quick photo of him in a white t-shirt. I spent his first five years of life documenting his growth on a weekly basis and it got to the point where he could finally let me know that he was over it.
I finally got around to putting together a slideshow of the images! As if the task itself hadn't been daunting enough, just getting it saved to a single file was even more cumbersome of a project that got put on the backburner for the last year. I told myself last month that it would be my goal to get it done by his 6th birthday, and I got it accomplished, just a few days afterwards.
I look at this slideshow now, a series of flashing images of a little boy growing up right in front of my eyes, and the things that stand out to me are the little details that may or may not go unseen - the sliver of color in the background breaking up the white backdrop that indicates we were at a friends house during our 8 month long cross-country road trip, a cut on his face from when he was bit by our beloved dog, his rosy cheeks as he cried during a sick day that still needed to be documented.
Joseph and I have lived a very full life already, and my little guy's journey has only just begun! I'm so proud to be the mother of this special person.
