It's said that everything you need to know, you learned in Kindergarten. This Kindergarten teacher is here to tell you that it's true, but not in the way you think.

Having just finished yet another "first day" of Kindergarten, I am always humbled by all there is to learn from a group of five and six year olds.

Here are some important lessons I learned from my students on the first day of Kindergarten.

1. There is no story too random to share with a new group of friends.

2. Never waste the opportunity to show someone how fast you can run.

3. Not feeling quite so human? That's okay. Just be a cat.

4. It is always okay to stop what you're doing to announce "This place is great!" and then resume your activity.

5. When someone says "Can I sing you a song?" -- just say yes. You will not be disappointed.

6. It is entirely possible to make 15 friends in one day.

7. Everyone loves dinosaurs. EVERYONE.

8. It's okay for every book to be your favorite book. You do not have to choose just one.

9. Even if you have the best day ever, it's totally acceptable to be excited for tomorrow.
